Softball: Forsyth Central, North Forsyth seasons end in first-round playoff sweeps

Forsyth Central and North Forsyth saw their softball seasons come to an end in the Class 7A state playoffs Thursday.

Central (15-11) was swept by Collins Hill in 3-2 and 6-2 losses on the road, while North (14-14) was eliminated by North Gwinnett in 6-1 and 9-4 losses on the road.

Haley Simpson went 2-for-7 with two doubles and an RBI in the Raiders’ first-round series, while Mallorie Black, Ashleigh Grace, Bella Caracciolo and Brooke Black each added two hits apiece. Abby Martin, Ansley Payne and Black each had an RBI.

North’s starting pitching struggled against North Gwinnett, but it got resilient performances from Amber Jones and Hailey Mize in relief. Jones allowed just one run on six hits over 4 2/3 innings in Game 1, while Mize pitched 2 1/3 shutout innings in Game 2.
