WEEKEND RECAP: North Forsyth, South Forsyth wrestling open seasons with tournament wins

North Forsyth and South Forsyth won their respective dual tournaments Saturday, the Raiders claiming the Dacula Duals and the War Eagles winning the Dunwoody Duals.

North earned victories against Newnan (52-27), Marietta (70-0), Brookwood (43-26), Dacula (69-12) and Habersham Central (65-18). The Raiders were led by Paul Watkins (5-0), Nathan Grimes (5-0), Conner Carroll (5-0), Cole Tenety (4-0), Hunter Lloyd (4-0), Jackson Bardall (4-0) and Justin Lioti (4-1).

South earned victories against Mount Vernon Presbyterian (36-19), Meadowcreek (60-12), Hillgrove (44-30) and host Dunwoody (39-36) despite missing four weight classes. The War Eagles got strong performances from Sam Ranta (4-0), Jackson Baraff (4-0), Felipe Hayes (4-0), Brennan McCrum (4-0), Adrian Garcia (4-0), Charlie Ranta (3-1) and Trey McKenzie (3-1).

Lambert, West take on Cobb

MARIETTA – Matthew Sheetz placed first in his weight class to lead the Longhorns to a fourth-place finish out of 16 teams at the Trojan Invitational on Saturday at Lassiter High School.

Eric Diemert and Robbie Powell each placed second, while Payton Mitchell and Kyle Hall placed third. Lambert also strong performances from Daniel Morin (sixth), Nicholas Sheetz (sixth) and Sean Bailey (seventh).

West came in seventh with a short-handed group led by Denver Stonecheck who placed second at 145 pounds. Jack Woodall (126) and Kaleb Sherman (170) each placed third, Tyler Bunten (160) placed fourth, Troy Crawford (138) placed seventh and Will Shirley (132) placed eighth.
