CUMMING — Any parents or grandparents who find they ask younger family members for online help now have the chance to catch up on their computer skills.
Forsyth County Public Library is holding an eight-week series of computer literacy classes for adults. Elizabeth Ortiz of Lanier Technical College will teach the sessions, which are set for 9:15-10:45 a.m. each Friday from Jan. 9- Feb. 27 in the library’s administration building computer lab, adjacent to the Cumming Library.
Each session is limited to 12 participants, and advance registration is required. Participants may choose to register for as few or as many classes as they like. But when a topic is covered over multiple sessions, students are recommended to register for all sessions on that topic.
“The first session will focus on helping students become more comfortable handling each component of the computer and learning about the different software,” Ortiz said in a library news release.
The second and third sessions will be devoted to the Internet, social media and web-based communication software.
Word processing and using Microsoft Word will be the focus of the fourth and fifth sessions, while the sixth and seventh weeks will be devoted to studying Microsoft Excel. The final session will focus on the use of Microsoft PowerPoint.
